erectile dysfunction causes

For many men, erectile dysfunction is an unexpected condition that can develop at any age. It can be easy to become discouraged by the condition and also have it affect your romantic relationship. If you want to obtain treatment for the disorder, it’s important to understand a few of the main causes.

Stress or Anxiety

Erectile dysfunction can develop when men are stressed or suffer from anxiety for prolonged periods of time. Emotional issues can have a direct impact on the man’s physical health and well-being, making it difficult to get aroused easily. A doctor will ask about your history and overall health while inquiring about any stressors that are present in your life. Relationship conflicts are also related to this type of condition or if you suffer from depression. A healthcare provider may prescribe you anti-anxiety or depression medication to alleviate the issue instead of only prescribing medicine for erectile dysfunction.

Diabetes

Diabetes can also cause erectile dysfunction. Those who have diabetes are already at a 50 percent risk of developing the condition because diabetes has an impact on how your body is able to process glucose. Too much sugar in your blood can start to damage your blood vessels and nerves, which can make it difficult to become erect and maintain an erection.

High blood pressure can also trigger erectile dysfunction as it also causes damage to the blood vessels if it’s too high for a long period of time. Managing hypertension and changing your diet can offer relief and work well for treating the issue.

Heart Disease

Heart disease leads to the narrowing of the blood vessels, which can make it challenging for enough blood to pump and flow to develop an erection. Getting the right treatment for heart disease will not only increase the size of the blood vessels but can quickly treat heart disease.

By learning about some of the main causes of erectile dysfunction, you can obtain proper treatment while working with a healthcare professional. Getting to the root of the underlying cause will improve your overall health and can restore your ability to connect with your partner.

Benefits of Using Shockwave Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction

The same shockwave therapy that your doctor prescribes for your kidney stones and your child’s foot injury in soccer, can now help you with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction (ED) and Peyronie’s Disease. Urologists use this non-invasive medical treatment for patients who wish to avoid invasive treatments or who do not do well on medication. European doctors first used the method, but US doctors now prescribe shockwave therapy, too.

Some sources still consider shockwave therapy an experimental treatment, but research has shown its efficacy. It isn’t yet known if it works over the long-term nor if it could replace or combine with other ED treatments. The evidence thus far shows that shockwave therapy helps about 75 percent of the patients who undergo it. They no longer require oral or injectable medicines to achieve an erection.

How Does It Work?

Shockwave therapy improves blood flow to the penis. The treatment consists of a series of high frequency, but low-intensity shock waves that help repair damaged blood vessels. The shockwaves also remove micro-plaque. You won’t need a local anesthetic nor medication to numb the area treated. The pain-free treatment takes about 15 to 20 minutes.

Depending on your health and the situation, you may require six to 12 treatments.

What Results Can You Expect?

Undergoing shockwave therapy can create numerous benefits that improve sexual function. These include the following improvements to sexual performance:

  • Harder erections,
  • Improved hardening of the penis,
  • Enhanced penial sensitivity,
  • Less time between orgasms,
  • Increased sexual spontaneity.

Although it isn’t a medical benefit, a successful treatment for ED can boost your confidence.

Who Can Undergo Shockwave Therapy?

Nearly any male with ED can undergo this treatment. As long as you have reached the age of 18 and you are male, you can use shockwave therapy. Doctors documented the efficacy of treatment up to the age of 70 in patients. If you’re older than that, speak with your doctor about the possibility of using this treatment in combination with another. Your overall health can contribute to success.

Contact Revived Performance for Men today for more information about your desire for a better, less invasive ED treatment. Call us at (720) 807-6654 for an appointment and consultation that can help you recover some of the pep you may have lost as your blood vessels aged.

What Are Exosomes Injections?

Are you interested in exosomes and how this intriguing cellular regenerative technique can help you? You’re not alone: as encouraging results have shown that exosome injections can improve erectile dysfunction (ED) issues, exosomes have become a hot topic Let’s take a deeper dive into exosomes, the procedure for ED, and the results.

What Do Exosomes Fix?

First, a little explanation. Exosomes are microscopic extracellular vesicles, considerably smaller than cells. They form in endosome pockets inside the cell. Stay with me, I know this sounds like a lot of gibberish.

An endosome is somewhat like a small pocket of air or bubble inside of the cell. Several microparticles, such as proteins, messenger-RNA, micro-RNA, and valuable lipids, combine inside the endosome ‘bubble’. They bond together and then are ejected out of the cell, becoming what’s known as an ‘exosome’.

Exosomes are how cells communicate with each other, as exosomes carry messages amongst themselves. Basically, the exosomes give marching orders to other cells and kick-start the body’s natural healing process. It was traditionally thought that this expulsion was a waste by-product of the cells.

Now we understand that exosomes are not waste: what messages are these exosomes carrying? Often, these messages are the body’s cells communicating to others that repairs need to take place. Sometimes the exosomes signal for more aid to their location if major regeneration is required. As we age, our body’s cells are not able to function as well as they once did, and this is where exosome injections come in to save the day.

What Is the Procedure?

Here at Revived Performance for Men, we use the reputable product ExoFlo, which was created by Direct Biologics for our exosome injections. The treatment is administered through a quick, simple and direct injection to the treatment area. While other treatments like Plasma Rich Platelet (PRP) therapy require a small amount of the patient’s own blood, with ExoFlo injections blood draw is not necessary.

ExoFlo is sourced from donated mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) obtained from human bone marrow. That means we’re using the same exosomes that the body develops naturally! Direct Biologics processes and produces ExoFlo under the most stringent standards. They operate under what is considered current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP). This is the FDA’s highest enforced standard.

We take patient health and safety seriously and only use the most trustworthy substances in our treatments. If you’d like to learn more, visit our ExoFlo page. If you’re ready to take control of your ED and want to book an appointment, feel free to call us at (720) 263-9344 or schedule a free appointment online. Your first consultation is on the house.

Is Exosome Therapy Safe?

Exosome therapy is somewhat new to the erectile dysfunction arena. So, naturally, due caution is warranted. There are many bad actors in this market and the FDA has issued reports on concerns related to exosome cases. When digging through all of this, it can be hard to know what information to trust, so we’re going to break it down below:

Who Produces Exosomes?

First off, exosomes are made and used in your body organically. As a natural part of your body, there have been no long-term negative side effects reported from this treatment.

Exosomes are not a synthetic or man-made chemical, they’re an important part of your body that contain things such as protein and DNA. Exosome therapies, such as the newly popular ExoFlo service, are completely organic and natural. The exosomes are sourced from human bone marrow mesenchymal stroma/stem cells.

Direct Biologics, the company that produces ExoFlo, is working in complete agreement with the FDA. They take their safety concerns very seriously and maintain “Current Good Manufacturing Practices” (CGMP), which is the most superior standard of processing and manufacturing controls.

What About FDA Approval?

Exosomes are very closely related to what the FDA refers to as HCT/Ps (Human Cellular or Tissue products). This means they are governed very similarly to HCT/Ps. For now, the FDA approves no products with exosomes just like there are no approved HCT/Ps. The FDA requires HCT/Ps to be registered and does not require prior FDA approval. As long as the products are meant for homologous use and are minimally manipulated, they are safe.

What does homologous use mean? Basically it’s using an HCT/P to heal or repair a patient in the same way the donor’s body would use the cells or tissue. Exosomes assist with cell communications in everyone. And since exosomes are naturally found in everyone’s body and are performing the same function for the recipient as the donor, it falls under ‘homologous use.’

Direct Biologics’ ExoFlo is a minimally manipulated tissue that has one single donor for each lot. ExoFlo contains no animal products, chemicals or drugs in the processing and isolation of the exosome products. Direct Biologics is actively seeking FDA approval and working hard to ensure a safe to use product.

In fact, Direct Biologics just recently received FDA approval to proceed with their second ExoFlo IND (Investigational New Drug) for post-acute COVID-19 syndrome and chronic post-COVID-19 syndrome last week. This is exciting and promising news for this amazing product.

Can Acid Reflux Medicine Cause Erectile Dysfunction?

In the world of medicine it can be hard to ascertain a relationship between drugs and the various symptoms you encounter. So many of the medicines including OTC (Over-The-Counter) can have unwanted side effects that can blindside you. We’re going to take a dive into the relationship between the more common Acid Reflux medications and Erectile Dysfunction.

Can Acid Reflux Medications Cause Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile Dysfunction has a complex relationship with many of our body’s other physiological signs, often making causality hard to link. However, the reasonably high association between Acid Reflux medications and ED was hard to ignore for scientists who, after several studies, have determined that Acid Reflux medications can cause erectile dysfunction.

This includes a wider range of medications than you might think as well. Both Ranitidine and Omeprazole (commonly known as ‘Zantac’ and ‘Prilosec’) can cause ED. In addition, the commonly used drugs Nexium, Tagamet and Prevacid have been shown to cause ED as well. Due to the functionality of the drugs in question, it’s best to check the side effects regardless of what drug you use to see if there’s a link.

What GERD Medications Should I Look At Then?

GERD, or Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease, is an incredibly common issue in America. Researchers have estimated as high as 20% of the population to have GERD and that number could likely be low due to unreported cases resulting from how commonplace heartburn is in our society. That’s an immense amount of the population that relies on medication to allow them to eat, sleep and go about their lives as normal. So what about the men who don’t want to trade GERD for ED?

To start, Dexilant oddly does not have any link to Erectile Dysfunction, so it’s safe in that regard. I say ‘oddly’ because it can have some daunting long term side effects, so have a discussion with your Gastroenterologist first before taking it. It can also be quite pricey and is typically not covered by insurance.

Protonix is another that seems to be safe from the side effect, though it can cause joint pain. If you need an additional option, Aciphex does not have ED listed as a side effect either. All three of those medications typically require prescriptions whereas the OTC medications have a strong link to ED, so it’s mainly a function of how each medication works.

Ruling Out Other Causes

When you’re figuring out your body’s puzzle, it’s important to narrow down the other causes to eliminate them. Though these medications can cause ED, it doesn’t mean that they will and everyone reacts differently. It’s recommended that you try the following to make sure your Erectile Dysfunction isn’t being influenced by an outside factor:

  • Avoid foods that trigger heartburn

This one is simply easier said than done as GERD sufferers often have many triggers. If you’re one of the lucky few that is only set off by a specific type of food, such as fried foods, then try eliminating that from your diet first.

  • Don’t lie down after a meal

If you generate more stomach acid than normal, lying down after a meal will cause the acid to splash back up into the lining of the esophagus.

  • Don’t eat before bed

The Gastric Emptying process slows considerably during sleep, so avoid eating too close to bedtime.

  • Elevate or tilt the head of your bed

This simply uses gravity to keep the stomach acid out of the esophageal lining.

  • Keep a healthy weight

Excess weight can put pressure on the stomach and squeeze the acid upwards.

  • Quit cigarettes and alcohol

Doing these can damage the stomach valve that keeps acid out of your esophagus.

I’ve Tried Those, What Next?

If you are suffering from ED and need Acid Reflux medications to manage your symptoms then Revived Performance for Men is here to help. Our Board Certified Physician Assistant will guide you to finding the right solution, no matter your situation.

Are Cucumbers Good For Erectile Dysfunction?

Cucumbers have many exceptional health benefits. They contain numerous vitamins critical to men’s sexual health. They also taste great and go well in a ton of dishes! In this week’s look into erectile dysfunction, we’ll go over the benefits that cucumbers offer and how they can help you.

What Are Cucumbers Good For?

From keeping you well hydrated to supporting a healthy heart, cucumbers have found their way across the world in many traditional diets for good reason. Cucumbers are native to India and have been used in traditional medicines since ancient times. While very high in water, cucumbers are particularly low in calories.

As we mentioned, cucumbers are a very healthy fruit and vegetable. They are technically fruits because they have seeds, but they are vegetables in the culinary sense. More importantly, they’re known as one of the healthier additions to a meal due to the amount of water and the high concentration of vitamins and minerals relative to their caloric value.

The amount of water contained helps maintain healthy, vibrant skin in both men and women and the low calories make it an excellent food for weight loss. The fiber content also helps with keeping digestion in good condition as well as proper levels of water retention.

Cucumbers consist of many nutrients, too. While approximately 90% of a cucumber’s contents are water, they also contain vitamins C and K as well as trace amounts of potassium, manganese, magnesium, and silica. Many people mistakenly believe that cucumbers have no nutritional value, but this is completely false.

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, plays a vital role in the development, growth, and repair of all tissues in the body. A common cause of erectile dysfunction begins with weak blood vessels. This vitamin is essential to keeping healthy and strong blood vessels.

Can Cucumbers Help Impotence?

Because of their high water content, they are excellent for purifying the body. Cucumber’s cleansing action will remove old deposits of toxins and waste materials. This is a very important characteristic to utilize if, say, bad habits like smoking are causing your erectile dysfunction. It may not be enough to completely counteract major health issues, but eating more cucumbers can certainly help you keep going longer.

One unpeeled medium sized cuke contains up to roughly 60% of the recommended daily intake of Vitamin K. This group of fat soluble vitamins assist with blood clots which is just what you need to prevent any blood vessel blow-outs.

Manganese is another trace component of cucumbers. Accounting for only about 10% of the recommended daily intake, it’s going to be difficult to get enough of this essential mineral from cucumbers alone. The body produces a little of this mineral, but not enough to survive, so it is important to get the right amount. Too much and too little can cause the body to break down and age faster. As Manganese assists in bone health and hormone production, it’s valuable when trying to improve erectile dysfunction.

Changing your diet can go a long way in helping your overall health. However, some people need more assistance when treating their erectile dysfunction. You may be interested in learning about how ExoFlo exosome therapy can help you overcome your ED.

Does Redbull Help With Erectile Dysfunction?

You’ve probably heard or are wondering about the myth that energy drinks can help your erectile dysfunction. You might think that Red Bull has caffeine, and caffeine is a stimulant, so then it must stimulate my sex life… right? You’d be surprised.

What’s So Hard About Stiffs?

There’s more to getting a boner than it’s typically made out to be. It is an involved process that includes the brain, hormones, emotions, nerves, muscles as well as blood vessels. If there’s a problem with any of those, it might cause erectile dysfunction. Before I lose your attention, why is any of this important?

Because stress can bring about erectile dysfunction. Running some of your body’s smaller, more intricate systems at its physical redline is going to cause breakdowns at some point. This is why caffeine might be hurting instead of helping you. It’s known that consuming too much caffeine and sugar will lower sexual libido in men and women.

This may lead to a softer erection and can actually make your sexual anxieties worse. A study was conducted in April 2015 by researchers from Greece and the United States. They collected data from 3,700 men. One of the patterns they noticed was that men who drank between 170-375mg of caffeine daily had less cases of ED.

How Much Red Bull Does That Mean?

Red Bull says there is 80mg of caffeine in their 8.4 fl oz cans. Based on that study, this is about 2-4 of the small cans of Red Bull (or 2-3 cups of coffee). But just remember that each small can of Red Bull has 27g of sugar. The American Heart Association recommends men should have no more than 36g of added sugar a day.

Not to beat a dead horse, but you ought to pay attention to this sugar intake. The researchers noticed another interesting pattern. Although overweight men with high blood pressure who consumed more caffeine were less prone to ED, the higher caffeine had no effect on ED for men with diabetes.

Researchers speculate that caffeine helps smooth muscle tissue and arteries. However, this smoothing effect could just be a faster heart rate and higher blood pressure forcing blood vessels to appear ‘smooth.’ Studies have shown that drinking Red Bull does increase blood pressure, from a faster heart rate. While it is known that a firm erection requires good blood flow, it is possible to over-do it with too much blood flow.

All in all, it seems as if your mileage may vary when it comes to Red Bull. Energy drinks do not seem to be a magic cure for preventing ED, but I hope that armed with this information, you can make a wise choice for yourself.

Does Green Tea Help Erectile Dysfunction?

You may have heard this rumor that green tea can help alleviate erectile dysfunction. Scientists asked themselves that very question, “can green tea prevent erectile dysfunction?” A research study was published in 2008 on whether or not consuming green tea regularly would affect erectile tissue.

What’s So Special About Green Tea?

So why should we care about some tea that our annoying co-worker is always bragging about? Well, green tea is noted for its rich anti-oxidant content. Anti-oxidants are recognized for helping prevent the disease in blood vessels known as atherosclerosis. That name’s a mouthful, but it’s simply arteries that are clogged with fatty plaques.

And why do we care about preventing clogged arteries? I’m sure you know that this can often be a “show-stopper.” So, moving on to the study. It was conducted on rats, like most studies because we’re similar. No, I’m not going to wax poetic philosophy 101 about the rodent part. You probably heard enough about that in some human studies elective. I mean that we’re both in the mammal class of the animal kingdom.

What Did They Find?

The point of the study was to observe changes to the genitalia, and how this could possibly prevent or postpone ED. The test group sipped on only a green tea extract solution for 6 months. The researchers made an encouraging discovery. While the amount of blood fats was not significantly different, less fats were being stored in the blood vessels of the genital organs.

Basically, it was slowing down and delaying the disease with clogged arteries, atherosclerosis. Additionally, the test showed a reduced chance of death from a cardiovascular disease. So while these results are very promising, they did note that more research is needed to prove green tea prevents harmful cases related to ED. Now, I’m not sure about you reading this but I’m gladly drinking green tea while I write this. Maybe I’m biased, but it’s hard to argue with that knowledge.

It may not solve your ED, but it could prolong your life. However, if you need a faster solution than drinking green tea for 6 months, you may be interested in our remedial ED services. ExoFlo is our newest service that requires no surgery and it’s completely natural. Please call our Denver office at (720) 263-9344 or schedule an appointment.

Aloe Vera & Erectile Dysfunction

Aloe Vera was called the plant of immortality by ancient Egyptians. Can this so-called immortality be harnessed to repair impotence? Does the reputation of this renowned little plant really hold water?

What Can Aloe Do?

First, aloe is known to come in two forms of medicinal substances. It can be found as a yellow latex or a clear gel. Aloe’s clear gel is used in topical creams and ointments for burns, psoriasis skin conditions, and also acne. It’s important to remember that the yellow latex of aloe is a laxative taken by mouth to deal with constipation. Clear gel aloe is safe as long as it’s used as recommended. Aloe latex requires attention to safety. If 1 gram of aloe latex is taken multiple days continuously, kidney damage can be caused and can even prove to be fatal.

Evidence has proven use of aloe for the following conditions:

  • Psoriasis: symptoms of mild to moderate psoriasis such as redness, itching, inflammation, and scaling can be diminished by aloe extract cream.
  • Wounds and burns: clear aloe gel seems to shorten the time it takes to heal wounds such as first and second degree burns. It also may help stimulate healing in other wounds.
  • Herpes simplex virus: lesions can heal sooner with the use of an aloe extract cream.
  • Acne: When used in the morning and evening regularly, aloe gel can boost the efficacy on acne of the prescription topical medication tretinoin.
  • Constipation: While aloe latex can cause abdominal cramps and diarrhea, it behaves as a laxative. It is unclear if it is effective at treatment of constipation and results may vary.
  • Oral lichen planus: two months of twice daily application of clear aloe gel can lessen this condition’s inflammatory symptoms inside the mouth.

Clear aloe gel is mainly regarded as safe in most cases, even proving efficient in treatment of skin conditions. Aloe latex, on the other hand, should be used with due caution. Chemicals in aloe latex may cause cancer. It is considered unsafe in large quantities. There is a possibility of acute kidney failure and death. Children under 12 years old should not use aloe latex.

You should be careful using aloe orally with the following drugs:

  • Blood thinners such as Warfarin, Coumadin, or Jantoven.
  • Anticoagulants and antiplatelets, herbals, and supplements. These slow blood clotting which can compound with oral use of aloe leading to longer bleeds.
  • Water pills or diuretics. This may result in deficient potassium levels and may need potassium supplements.
  • Digoxin (Lanoxin) has side effects that can be increased when potassium is low.
  • Stimulant laxatives along with aloe latex can over do it on your bowels and lead to dehydration.
  • Oral drug absorption and effectiveness can be reduced if taken with aloe latex.
  • Diabetes drugs with oral aloe gel can put one at risk of a condition similar to hypoglycemia (abnormally low blood sugar level).
  • Sevoflurane (ultane) is an anesthetic used during surgery that can slow blood clotting. Combined with aloe, this could cause unnecessary bleeds during surgery.

Different Kinds of Aloe:

An Italian institute’s research showed that Aloe Arborescens is much more potent than Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera).  The Palatini Institute in Salzano, Venice discovered that Aloe Arborescens is twice as strong in remedial quality than Aloe Vera. Of all known plants, Aloe Arborescens contains the largest number of identical enzymes in our body. Of the 95 main enzymes in the human body, it contains 73 of them.

While it hasn’t been directly linked as a cure for ED, Aloe Arborescens is a much more impressive relative of Aloe Vera. Many scientific reports show that Aloe Arborescens has dramatic beneficial effects.  It can improve  heartburn, gastritis, reflux, intestinal health, and other immune system diseases. Most importantly for those suffering from ED, it detoxifies and cleanses blood vessels. Could it solve ED? Current studies are not conclusive, sadly.

Locals in Nigeria have been known to use Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) to increase sexual desire. Scientists studied the aphrodisiac effects of this plant in male rats. Groups were given different doses of Aloe Barbadensis and a control group was given distilled water mixed with Viagra. Researchers monitored the sexual behaviors in the groups and found interesting results. They noted that Aloe Barbadensis increased the number of sexual engagements, but substantially reduced the durations of the engagements. Put simply, it made them more willing, but didn’t help them last longer.

Similar to how aloe can detoxify blood vessels, our GAINSWave therapy uses low intensity shock waves  to improve blood flow by removing plaque and repairing blood vessels. A key benefit of  GAINSWave is that it is a drug-free, non-invasive, non-surgical option to achieving better sex.

Almonds and Erectile Dysfunction

There seems to be a LOT of misinformation out there about almonds and erectile dysfunction. Let’s take a look at the facts and dispel the myths.

Nuts About Nuts

Spanish researchers conducted a small study about several kinds of nuts. Their findings were part of the FERTINUTS project and were published in the journal Nutrients. Previously, the FERTINUTS study found that hazelnuts, walnuts, and almonds had enhanced sperm quality; however it did not alter sexual function.

What was interesting though, later on in the study, they discovered that eating about 2 handfuls (60g) of nuts a day could actually lead to better sexual function. The study used 83 participants who regularly ate a typical western diet. This meant they ate a lot of animal fats like meat and little fruits and vegetables.

Participants were split into a control and test group for 14 weeks. The control group continued their normal diet while the test group added 60g of almonds, walnuts, and hazelnuts to their diets. Blood tests were taken at the beginning to establish a baseline as well as the end.  Changes in levels of nitric oxide and other relevant data were observed.

After seeing the results, researchers discovered that simply adding these nuts to a diet considered ‘unhealthy’ had a positive effect on libido and the intensity of orgasms. Considering the number of participants in the study, more research is necessary to support these claims. The researchers even indicated discretion because of the small group size.

Chock Full of What?

Almonds are considered one of the most healthy foods. This is for many good reasons. Almonds are high in fiber, vitamins A and E, and beta carotene. They also help to mitigate risk of heart disease and other conditions. The fats found in almonds are mostly monounsaturated fats, which is a healthier kind of fat that can help reduce high blood cholesterol.  And if all of that wasn’t enough, they are easily available.

Many nuts are loaded with arginine. This is an amino acid responsible for nitric oxide production in the body. Long story short, nitric oxide (NO) has been found to help with invigoration. The L-Arginine compound helps with blood flow (vasodilation) to the captain. However, in the earlier mentioned study, the data did not match up between patients’ improvements and blood levels.

Even though the levels of NO and other blood data did not indicate the reason for the improvement, other health benefits from eating nuts could be the cause. Plant based sterols, antioxidants, and folic acid have a positive effect on overall health. The reduction of inflammation due to nuts is the big takeaway from this study more than anything.

While almonds might not be the cure to your impotence, Revived Performance for Men might be. We specialize in scientifically proven, non-invasive procedures that help to increase blood flow to the penis and optimize erections, sensitivity, and sexual performance.
